A Teasure Box for Clara



So I thought I'd take a short break from posting...and just nine months later I'm back!

Funny how life is sometimes...

Anyway, here's something that was created during that time - a treasure box for my daughter's birthday. I used poplar; I can't remember why, but it was nice to work with.










Clara told me it had to be "red, with purple corners". I mixed up some milk paint, and interpreted those instructions loosely...


...but she didn't care! Joy!

Of course, now the boy wants one too...

      Thank you! It is mostly screwed, although the trim on the lid is nailed.

      Thanks! It's based on an old Swedish box in a book I have. Of course, it came out quite different, as both I, and the wood, had ideas of our own.

      Hi Lorenzo, sorry for the delay in responding to your question. I'm not sure what you mean by "thorns". Do you mean the dowel joints? When I use dowels to join, I just drill and peg it together with glue. But actually, this is counter-sunk, screwed and then plugged. Of course, if that is not what you were referring to, then it doesn't help much. Please let me know.

      Hi Lorenzo,

      I just buy the dowel. If I don't have the size I need, I sharpen it in a pencil sharpener and then just tap it in snug.

      I agree! It's more dormant than dead...or maybe it's pining for the fjords...

    Of course, the other kid will definitely want one - it looked great! It is really nice to make something like this that they can use to put small stuff in.
